Welcome to Kestrel Class!
The Year 4 and 5s of Kestrel Class at Enfield Academy.
All homework will be given out every Friday and should be returned every Thursday.
Topic/English: Kestrel Class will receive a Topic/English based 'homework map' which will provide opportunities to develop interest in the area of study as well as help with English skills. These tasks should be completed across the school term.
Spellings: A statutory 'spelling map' will be sent home at the start of each half term detailing the spellings to be practised each school week. These should be practised in their home-learning books using a variety of spelling strategies to ensure they are ready for their weekly Friday spelling test. The more practice the better!
Maths: Maths homework will take the form of TT-Rockstars; a carefully sequenced programme of times tables practice games and challenges. The children will receive a target each week and should attempt to reach that target through competing with their times tables knowledge!
Reading: Your child needs to read a minimum of three times a week for a sustained period of around 20 minutes. Ideally, you should ask your child questions about what they have read to check understanding. Please sign and date your child's reading record so they are eligible for the reading rewards scheme.
"So please, oh PLEASE, we beg, we pray, go throw your TV set away.
And in its place you can install, a lovely bookshelf on the wall."
- Roald Dahl
Every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon.
For this term children need to have available an outdoor PE kit including trainers. Please ensure that all items of clothing are clearly labelled as to avoid mix ups. Girls should have their hair tied back if it is long; and earrings should be removed in accordance with health and safety requirements. If your child is unable to take part in PE, due to physical injury, please contact the school office or provide a note for the teacher. PE bags will be sent home every half term. Trainers should be left at school so the children are able to do the Golden Mile outside of PE lesson time; this is something we are very enthusiastic about!
