Robin Class

Welcome to the reception class at Enfield Academy.

In this class you will find a warm welcome from class teacher Mrs D.Bartlett and teaching assistant Miss O.Chrysostomou (Miss Chrys) .

Together we provide a safe and stimulating environment for your child to grow and develop at their own pace. We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage and provide a range of activities for your child to get the most out of their learning with us.

Follow the link below to find out more information about the EYFS curriculum and how you can help your child.

Phonics

As your child is new to school this might be the first time they have been exposed to a synthetic phonics scheme. This September we have subscribed to a new scheme which we hope the children will enjoy learning. The company that provides this is called Activ Learn and they do a range of programmes. We have bought  'Phonics Bug' to use with the children. There are comprehensive lesson plans and a range of resources to support your child's learning. Phonics bug follows the same pattern as Letters and Sounds , which you may be more familiar with. For more information about this and how you can help your child, please click on the link below or come and talk to us.

Reading

In Robin class , we think it is important to have a 'love of reading!'. We have an area in the classroom which is inviting and comfortable for the children to choose high quality texts for the children to enjoy and share. Some Topics will have core books we will use to inspire the children. We are currently subscribing to the Power of Reading scheme that has tried and tested texts that are chosen for their high quality and how they can link to all areas of the curriculum, as well as providing a range of teaching approaches to engage the children.

Don't worry if your child does not have a 'reading book' straight away. We will provide plenty of opportunities for you child to access the school reading scheme when they are ready to do so.

Physical Education

P.E. is a prime area of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and to help your child achieve we will have a timetabled session in the hall, which over the course of the year will include balancing skills, dance, team games and ball skills. This session will be on FRIDAY mornings and your child will be required to wear the P.E uniform as explained in your information booklet. Please ensure your child does not wear earrings on this day and tie long hair back. P.E. bags will be sent home every half term.

We take part in the Golden Mile twice a week. The Golden Mile is a safe, simple and measurable health & physical activity initiative accessible to all age groups regardless of ability. Trainers are useful for this activity.
