Enfield Academy of New Waltham School Council

As a school we value the thoughts, ideas and opinions of all our children. The School Council ensures that pupils are fully represented within the school and that their opinions are heard and taken seriously.

Chair of the School Council

Our School Council is made up of pupils who are elected to become councillors by the rest of the pupil population within our school community.

To begin with, each class will have a discussion about what a school council does and why it is helpful to a school.

Vice-Chair of the School Council

The children learn about democratic elections at their level and discuss what would make a good representative. Next, the children nominate themselves or each other for the role giving reasons for why they would be a suitable candidate.

After an election campaign, we carry out a secret vote in order to select two school councillors per class.

Representatives are elected by their classes at the start of each school year.

Every class elects two members to represent them.

Councillors regularly meet together and discuss matters that are important to the pupils in their classes.
